Assembling is the new cooking

April 21, 2010

What can I say folks? I’ve had absolutely no time to cook for almost one full week. Ouch. My Brooklyn Kitchen has become “grab whatever I can find in the fridge or pantry and make it taste good.” That has made for some interesting flavor combinations. I’m also very true to my food beliefs, one of which is [...]

The Joy of being fed

April 18, 2010

It’s really simple to beget my undying love and gratitude: just invite me over for dinner. I don’t care if you can’t cook worth squat. Hell, I’m happy if you boil a bag of pasta and warm up a jar of good tomato sauce. I promise to bring the booze. Just make me something to eat [...]

Home Alone

April 16, 2010

Heh heh heh…I have the place all to myself tonight. Heh heh.
That means I get to eat whatever I want, when I want, and how I want. At first, I thought a nice, hearty pasta would do the trick. A thunderstorm suddenly came out of nowhere, putting in me in a cozy mood. Then I [...]

K I S S

April 15, 2010

I was reminded today of the pleasures of eating simply.
Breakfast consisted of hand-made ricotta with sliced strawberries.
Lunch was a Parisian-style baguette sandwich with lots of butter and a few slices of gossamer-thin prosciutto. Arugula salad with cherry tomatoes and balsamic vinaigrette balanced things out.
A few passionfruit candies from Papabubble in the afternoon.
The finale: a cheeseburger [...]

A Hard Day’s Morning

April 14, 2010

I had a completely dysfunctional, hide-and-seek morning: couldn’t find my keys, my cell phone, and worst of all, my metrocard. Argh! Eventually all the items turned up, but only after 30 minutes of CSI-style searching. With no time to make lunch (as I had planned the night before), I cracked open the fridge and threw [...]

Post-dancing fuel

April 13, 2010

Just got home from a vigorous dance class. I’m so hungry that my stomach actually hurts. Getting an emergency slice is mighty tempting, but I’m going to fight the urge and boil some pasta instead. I’m faced with an almost empty fridge. And yet, you can always count on me to have a hunk of parmesan, [...]

My Morning Milkshake

April 12, 2010

Here’s something worth waking up to: a good-for-you smoothie that tastes like a sinful milkshake. I’m all about a morning smoothie in the warmer months, and this has led to some frightful choices. I went through a protein powder phase where the finished product looked more like wet cement mix than something you would pick [...]

Pie master

April 11, 2010

I hereby declare Sunday, April 11 , 2010 ‘Special Sunday.’ First and foremost, I fasted for a solid 36 hours without killing anyone (or myself, for that matter). Yay! Secondly, I’m celebrating the end of the fast by making a huge, gorgeous salad for dinner and a strawberry rhubarb pie for dessert! Last but not [...]

What does a fast look like?

April 10, 2010

Dear readers,
Forgive me for the non-food post, but I am fasting today. I usually fast for 24 hours every couple months or so after a prolonged pig-out. The last time I fasted was right after the holidays, and I’m in dire need of another detox after Easter. Though I never eat solid food during a [...]

OMG sweet tooth alert

April 9, 2010

I call my boyfriend right quick: “Where are you? Are you near the Key Food?” He’s on his way home from picking up Thai take-out.
“Actually, I’m walking right by it. Why?”
“I need a carrot. Can you pick one up? I’m making carrot cake.”
“You just can’t stop cooking, can you?”
No, I can’t. I begrudgingly agreed on [...]
